Growing up in Niantic, CT, I never thought I would find my other half in Morocco. Well, I didn’t actually find him in Morocco but he was born there. After meeting we found that we were from two very different worlds but seemed to have a whole lot in common and shared the same hopes and dreams. Out of this came two beautiful children and Tissa’s Market and Café. We pooled our skills and love of cooking together and began our dream.
After five years we decided to move our business to a lovely building historically known as the “James Pharmacy Building” located on the corner of Main Street and Pennywise Lane in Old Saybrook, CT. This building has one of the oldest Ice Cream Soda Fountains still in existence in the United States. It was installed in 1896 and is still operational. We incorporated the historic nature of the building with our market and Le Souk du Maroc was born.
Now our Café serves Mediterranean Pastries, Cookies and desserts, Ice Cream, Milk Shakes, Frappes, Fruit Smoothies, Coffee, Tea, and more.We have expanded our market to include the main staples of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, Moroccan Home Accents, Clothing, Jewelry, and a lovely Bath and Body section.
